The gambling\nindustry, in particular, has taken quite the hit especially considering how\npopular the retail gambling space is. &nbsp;However, this is a necessary step towards containing\nor at least restricting the spread of COVID-19 which has already been declared\na global pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-united-states\">The United States<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2020\/03\/15\/coronavirus-latest-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"limitation of gatherings of more than 50 people (opens in a new tab)\">limitation of gatherings of more than 50 people<\/a>. This will remain so <strong>for at least the next eight weeks as efforts to control the spread of the virus intensify.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Across the country, dozens of online gambling destinations have been closed for varying periods of time. The same goes for both bars and restaurants \u2013 the services of most of these facilities have now been restricted to takeout and deliveries. Some of the states where casino operations have been suspended including <strong>Illinois, Pennsylvania, Nevada, California, <\/strong>and<strong> Washington.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Needless to say, this step is expected to make some difference\nin the way the virus spreads and even though most casinos have stated that the\nclosures are only temporary, business will only resume after significant steps\nhave been taken towards solving this problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"australia\">Australia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Australia, the gambling industry has opted for a rather unusual approach. Instead of completely closing down, two of the biggest casino brands in the county have opted to adopt social distancing measures instead. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-health-coronavirus-australia-crown-re\/australian-casino-operators-separate-gamers-to-beat-coronavirus-idUSKBN2121F8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Crown Resorts and the Start Entertainment Group (opens in a new tab)\">Crown Resorts and the Start Entertainment Group<\/a> have both decided to restrict entry into their facilities going forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The revenues of these gaming destinations have definitely\ndwindled and they are facing a lot of pressure to deliver while at the same\ntime ensuring they remain socially responsible. As it stands, there is not\nreally much that can protect them from more revenue hits as the number of patrons\ncontinues to decrease significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-now\">What Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These cases are not restricted to Australia and the United States alone. Other gambling havens such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casinosrealmoney.com\/news\/macau-casinos-to-shut-down-as-coronavirus-containment-efforts-intensify\/\">Macau already went through the slow down<\/a> as a result of the outbreak and there is a possibility that this will extend across many other parts of the globe.
