Caravelle Hotel & Casino Closed for Renovations

Caravelle Hotel & Casino is closed for the next six months (between May 6 and early October) for some next-level remodeling and renovations that are expected to breathe some new life to the gaming and hospitality facility. The 43-room boutique waterfront hotel in the historic town of Christiansted, St. Croix will, fortunately, keep all of its employees all through the renovation and remodeling period and this is because the casino, the award-winning RumRunners Restaurant & Bar, Big Beards, SCUBA and Caravelle Market will still be running during the six-month renovation period.

This is not the first time that the facility has remodeled its facility. In February 2016, it unveiled a completely renovated Caravelle Hotel, a move that was welcomed by the community. Unfortunately, things took a rather unexpected turn in 2017 when Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria stormed through the United States Virgin Islands causing considerable to the facility’s hotel.

According to Andrew Dubuque of Caravelle Hotel & Casino, the damage was so bad that it was surprising that they were able to remain open and accommodate relief workers as some of the damage on the Island was mended. Now that the Island has recovered from the devastating events, the operator believes that it is a great opportunity to dive deeper with hotel renovations and bring back the hotel to a pristine condition.

What Is to Be Done?

Renowned construction firm, J. Benton Construction will be managing the renovations which include repairs to the damage caused by the storms as well as the improvement of the guest amenities and the replacement of windows. The guest rooms will be remodeled to include new décor, mattresses, lines, and television sets. While these will be going on, the casino and hospitality operator will indulge its team members and staff in a series of training and education programs. They will also be supporting the Company House Hotel, Caravelle Hotel’s sister hotel.

All these great renovation plans which Company House Hotel also recently went through are part of VIGL’s, the owner of the hotel group, plans, and commitment to the revitalization of Christiansted, which is considered to be a true historical and architectural gem of the Caribbean. The VIGL hotel group is known for the emphasis that it lays on education, culture, entertainment and community events. In 2019, the company intends to further expand its philanthropic support through charitable donations, supporting community activities and event programs among other things.

Over the past two years, VIGL and the hotels it owns have donated in-kind charitable donations amounting to at least $25,000 – these have included events spaces and room nights. The Christiansted organizations that have benefited from these donations include the Agriculture and Food Fair, American Cancer Society, St. Croix Animal Welfare Center, St. Croix Economic Summit, St. Croix Foundation, St. George Botanical Gardens, St. Croix Majorettes, Ten Sleepless Knights Cultural Committee, The Superior Court Rising Stars, Taste of St. Croix, Virgin Islands Agrifest, Virgin Islands Triathlon, the University of the Virgin Islands and other educational, cultural among many other community organizations.
